Kathleen and Vic love hiking and camping in the wilderness. Retired and no longer “spring chickens”, they were ready to toss their tent and camp in style. They hoped to wander the Southwest and beyond during the chilly Colorado winters. Their requirements were a van that was beautiful, comfortable, and could take them both off road and off grid. They already owned an AWD Transit - which covered the off road part. Boho’s job was to add the comfort, beauty and off grid capabilities.

Big Red, built on a Ford Transit 148”, is loaded with power. It has a 300ah of Battleborn Lithium system which supports the amenities Kathleen and Vic require including a 2-burner induction stove top, Espar Cabin Heater (which runs off the fuel tank) a Dometic CRX 110S fridge and 2.6 gallons of hot water.

The entire van sports 25 gallons of fresh water powering both an aft outdoor shower and drop-in sink set in an extended butcher block kitchenette.

The layout is unique, with its large kitchen, seating along the slider door, wall pantry, and window flares to make the bed a full queen length. Big Red is as unique as its color.

Kathleen and Vic will use Big Red year round - with its excellent off grid abilities. We hope to spot all three as they visit the Southwest in the winter - but our guess is they’ll be miles from anyone.
